Technical data

Coverage

Weber.therm Base Coat X-tremre is supplied in 20kg paper bags.

Coverage is approximately 3.5 to 4m2 per bag when applied 3 to 4mm thick.

Surface preparation

The surface onto which Base Coat X-treme will be applied :

  • must be sound, clean and free of any material which may impair adhesion
  • must be true in plane
  • must be below 75% RH

Masking

Mask all areas where there is a risk of splashing and staining and where straight edges are required.

Masking tape must be removed before the material has dried.

Mixing

  • Combine 20kg of Base Coat X-treme with 4.5 litres of clean water.
  • Mix thoroughly.
  • A small amount of water may be added if necessary .

It is recommended that a sample be applied on-site to determine the suction of the substrate.

Application

Please note :

Weber.therm Base Coat X-treme is designed to have a textured surface to provide a key for the application of the final finish. It is not possible to create a steel trowelled finish using Base Coat X-treme.

It is advisable to test a sample area on-site before application begins. Surfaces receiving Base Coat X-treme must be below 75% RH.

Onto expanded polystrene

The surface should be dry when application starts.

  • Using a 10mm x 10mm notched tiler’s trowel, apply the first layer of Base Coat X-treme by forcing the material tightly against the surface.
  • Press the Glass Fibre Mesh onto the surface of the wet Base Coat.
  • Steel trowel immediately to smooth the surface, ensuring that the Glass Fibre Mesh is completely covered.
  • Leave overnight to air cure.
  • Apply the chosen final finish coating once the moisture content of the Base Coat is below 75% of relative humidity (RH) or below 5% moisture content.

Onto cement surfaces

  • Using a 10mm x 10mm notched trowel, apply Base Coat X-treme by forcing the material tightly against the surface and then steel trowel.
  • Follow immediately with a sponge roller or wood float to create a textured finish.
  • Leave overnight to air cure.
  • Apply the chosen final finish coating once the moisture content of the Base Coat is below 75% of relative humidity (RH) or below 5% moisture content.

Note : Glass Fibre Mesh may be used if the substrate needs reinforcing. See the application method for expanded polystyrene above.

Curing

Wet the coated walls 3 times during the next day using clean water.

Good practice

Do not apply :

  • if frost is forecast within 24 hours of use
  • in damp/wet conditions
  • in temperatures below 5oC or above 30oC on elevations in direct sunlight or where the substrate is hot

Storage

When stored, unopened in a dry place at temperatures above 5oC, shelf life is 12 months from date of manufacture.
